LASG gives conditions to reinstall Lekki gates

The Lagos State Government asserts that all gates removed from the Lekki area remain undamaged and will be reinstated to the respective zones of the residents’ association promptly once a mutually agreeable arrangement is reached on the installation modalities.

On Tuesday, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources in Lagos, emphasized that any agreement should include a stipulation that these gates remain open until midnight, with personnel on hand to ensure smooth entry and exit for all residents.

He explained that the decision to remove all the gates was influenced by the desire to avoid accusations of selectively choosing streets for gate removal.

Wahab addressed this issue during a stakeholders’ meeting with members of the Lekki Residents Association, alongside his transport counterpart, Oluwaseun Oshiyemi, in the Alausa area of the state.

Wahab acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, emphasizing that it was made because the state government has the responsibility to regulate operations at Lekki 1, which is a government scheme.
