A first-half strike from Omar Marmoush secured Eintracht Frankfurt a 1-0 Bundesliga victory over St Pauli on Saturday, amid increasing speculation about the Egyptian forward’s potential move to Manchester City.

Before the match, Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche confirmed “a club had made contact” regarding Marmoush. Reports from Sky Germany suggest the player has already agreed personal terms with the English champions.

Marmoush scored in the 32nd minute against his former side, expertly turning inside the box and firing into the top corner. It was his 14th goal in 16 Bundesliga matches this season, bringing him level with Harry Kane as the league’s top scorer. The 25-year-old has also provided eight assists.

“We worked hard to keep a clean sheet,” said Frankfurt captain Kevin Trapp, adding, “There’s still room for improvement.”

The win kept Frankfurt in third place, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who face Borussia Mönchengladbach later in the day.

Elsewhere, Freiburg climbed to sixth with a 3-2 win over Holstein Kiel, featuring a spectacular free-kick from Christian Günter. Union Berlin’s woes deepened with a 2-0 defeat at Heidenheim, compounded by a controversial DFB ruling penalising the club for fan misconduct.

Mainz moved into fourth with a 2-0 victory over Bochum, while Wolfsburg edged Hoffenheim 1-0 thanks to Mohamed Amoura’s goal.
