Less than 24 hours after Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals raised the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, by N100 per litre, its partner retail outlet, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, alongside NNPC Limited, has increased pump prices by the same margin.

A market survey conducted in Abuja on Tuesday morning showed that several other filling stations also adjusted their pump prices upwards.

Findings indicated that MRS and NNPC Retail moved their pump price from N875 per litre on Monday to N975 per litre. Meanwhile, AYM Shafa and AA Rano raised their prices by N80, increasing from N880 per litre to N960 per litre.

The refinery had earlier raised its PMS gantry price by N100, bringing the ex-depot rate to N874 per litre from N774 — a development that has sparked concerns about fresh fuel price hikes nationwide.

A senior refinery official who confirmed the adjustment attributed the decision to instability in global crude oil markets.

“Yes, the price has been reviewed. The new gantry price is now N874 per litre, up from N774. The revision became necessary due to changes in global crude fundamentals and replacement costs,” the official said.

Information from petroleumprice.ng showed that the revised pricing has already taken effect, indicating a shift in downstream pricing benchmarks likely to influence retail petrol costs across the country.

The increase followed the refinery’s suspension of petrol loading operations from midnight on March 2, 2026, after international crude oil prices climbed above $80 per barrel overnight.

Industry sources noted that while petrol loading and the issuance of proforma invoices were temporarily halted, the suspension affected only PMS, with Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) operations continuing without interruption.

The refinery’s action has since sent ripples through Nigeria’s downstream sector, with several private depot owners reportedly suspending petrol sales during the trading day.
