The Nigerian Bar Association has announced the winners of its 2026 national elections, with Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, emerging as the association’s 33rd president.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Aham Ejelam (SAN), announced the results on Sunday at the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja.
Badejo-Okusanya secured 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the ballots cast, defeating Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe (SAN), who polled 7,934 votes, and Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN), who garnered 5,855 votes.
She will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2028, becoming only the second woman to lead the NBA after Priscilla Kuye, who served between 1991 and 1992.
The election recorded 26,184 votes from the association’s 82,172 registered members, representing a voter turnout of 31.86 per cent.
Other elected national officers include Chief Oghenero Okoro as First Vice-President, while Egya Nuhu John and Pepple Iniobong Irene were returned unopposed as Second and Third Vice-Presidents, respectively.
Afam O. Okeke emerged as General Secretary after polling 8,478 votes, while Aghogho Gladys Okpomor won the Assistant General Secretary position with 14,312 votes.
Esther Ifeoma Jimoh was elected Treasurer unopposed, while Audrey Chinelo Ofoegbunam secured the Welfare Secretary position. Dr Prince I. Azubuike emerged as Publicity Secretary, and Hadiza Nasir Ahmad won the Assistant Publicity Secretary seat.
For zonal representatives, Rotimi Komolafe was elected to represent the Western Zone, while Huwaila Muhammad Ibrahim secured the Northern Zone seat. The Eastern Zone election featured eight candidates, with Chidi Betsy Nnaji recording the highest number of votes.
