The Nigeria Democratic Congress has adopted a consensus approach for its governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nasarawa State.
The party’s state chairman, Dogo Shammah, announced this on Saturday during a one-day North Central Zonal Congress held in Lafia.
He said the decision was aimed at preventing internal conflict and strengthening the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
“I assure you that in Nasarawa State, the NDC will present credible candidates for all elective positions… through a consensus arrangement that prioritises unity,” he said, adding that the party was determined “not to only participate but to win elections.”
Shammah also urged residents across Nasarawa’s 13 local government areas and the wider North Central region to join the party, describing it as a platform built on justice, equity and progress.
He said the party, though newly registered, was positioning itself as a strong opposition ahead of the next general elections, with stable leadership and a clear vision.
The North Central National Vice Chairman of the party, Barnabas Ejisi, also called on Nigerians to vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027, saying the NDC was committed to providing better governance.
He said the party had gained value through the involvement of political figures such as former Governors Peter Obi and Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, whom he described as adding strength to its structure.
Another party leader, Solomon Ndam, said the turnout at the congress showed strong acceptance of the party in the North Central region.
He added that the party represented a “new direction” aimed at addressing insecurity, unemployment and economic hardship, while urging members to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 polls.
