The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has refuted a widely circulated notice alleging that it has suspended its student loan disbursement programme, describing the document as false.

In a statement shared on X on Saturday, the scheme said it had not announced any halt in loan payments and urged the public to ignore the message and rely only on official communication channels.

The notice, which spread online, claimed that “due to unforeseen operational circumstances… NELFUND has taken the difficult decision to temporarily pause the student loan disbursement programme with immediate effect.”
However, the fund rejected the claim, stating, “This document is fake. Kindly disregard the circulating letter on suspension of student loan disbursements. NELFUND has not issued any such directive.”

It further advised students and stakeholders to seek updates only through its verified platforms to avoid being misled.

The clarification comes amid increased public interest in the scheme, which the Federal Government says has supported over one million students since its inception, improving access to higher education nationwide.

Government figures indicate that the initiative has cost more than N1.1bn, while over 160,000 youths have also benefited from digital skills training under related programmes.
