The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has begun disbursing June and July upkeep allowances to beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.

The payment update was confirmed by the National Association of Nigerian Students, with several students also posting screenshots of successful credit alerts on X as evidence that the disbursement had commenced.

Announcing the development on Friday, NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, said the process was underway and assured beneficiaries that all pending allowances would be paid.

“The payment of June and July NELFUND upkeep allowances has officially commenced.

“As I assured you, every outstanding backlog will be paid. We remain committed to ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student is left behind,” he said.

He encouraged students who were yet to receive payment not to worry, explaining that the funds were being released in stages.

“To all beneficiaries, I urge you to remain patient as payments are processed. If you have not received yours yet, kindly stay calm, as disbursements are being made in batches.

“We are here for you, always, and we will continue to stand firmly in defence of the welfare and interests of Nigerian students.

“Aluta Continua!” the statement added.

The payments come after weeks of complaints from students who expressed concern over delays in receiving their monthly upkeep support.

Since the announcement, many beneficiaries have shared screenshots of their bank alerts on social media, confirming that the June and July allowances have started reflecting in their accounts.

The upkeep allowance is one of the benefits provided under the NELFUND programme. Apart from paying tuition fees directly to approved tertiary institutions, the scheme also offers monthly financial assistance to eligible students to help cover their living expenses.
