Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has ordered the closure of all schools across the state until after the New Year, while schools located in areas experiencing security challenges are to remain closed indefinitely.

He announced the directive while speaking to journalists in Minna after a security and stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House regarding the state’s current security concerns.

According to the governor, the shutdown affects every category of institution — public and private schools, Islamic and missionary schools, federal government colleges, and certain tertiary institutions such as schools of nursing and midwifery.

The Governor stated the schools will be shut down until after the New Year while those in security affected areas will be shut down until further notice.

Speaking about the abduction, Bago said it was an incident that could have been avoided but the government would not use its time for blame games but to look at ways of rescuing the abducted children.
