Nigeria, Benin, Togo flag off joint regional maritime operation, Niger absent

The navies of Benin Republic, Togo, and Nigeria have launched Operation Safe Domain II, with the motto ‘Enhancing Maritime Security via Collaboration for Regional Prosperity’.

The event took place on Monday in the Benin Republic.

The Niger Republic, one of the MoU’s signatories, was not present at the ceremony.

According to Commodore Aniedi Ibok, Director of the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre Zone E, the operation is part of a memorandum of understanding inked in 2014.

Ibok stated that the pact allows each country’s warships to fight criminal elements without regard for borders.
