Different labour groups on Wednesday held separate protests against the removal of subsidy on petrol in capital.

The separation was attributed to the Nigeria Labour Congress’s inability to elect state leaders in the state.

A faction loyal to the state’s interim chairman of the NLC had gathered at Freedom Park Osogbo, while members of the Trade Union Congress, led by Adebowale Adekola, had gathered at the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding in Osogbo.

Also, members of the Osun Civil Societies Coalition joined by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and National Union of Electricity Employees, held another protest march through major streets in Osogbo.

Speaking after joining the NLC group at Freedom Park, Osogbo, the Chairman of Osun CSOs, Waheed Lawal, said “Everyone must come out to stop the move to further impoverished Nigerians.

“If not for the agitations, the Federal Government would have increased electricity tariff. Nigerians must come out to join this protest.”
