The FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended three individuals suspected of being involved in vandalism and cable theft, due to their unlawful possession of communication cables.
It is worth noting that on August 28, 2023, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrested and presented to the public 20 suspects accused of plundering public utility holes and vandalizing public assets in different locations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, issued a stern warning that criminal activities will not be tolerated in the FCT any longer.
According to a statement signed by the Command Spokesperson, Comfort Okomanyi, on Sunday, the suspects were apprehended near the House on the Rock Church Junction on Airport Road in the FCT with fiber optic cables that had been identified as government property.
The suspects were arrested by the NSCDC FCT Command Patrol team after receiving intelligence reports that some criminals were disguising themselves as engineers to carry out cable works, to vandalize and steal the cables
While presenting the suspects to the public, Commandant Odumosu pledged to increase the NSCDC’s efforts to combat criminals and vandals who are defacing the capital territory.
He said “We are going to flush vandals out of FCT. Thank God you are beginning to see the results of our reactivated patrol teams.”
“We will intensify our efforts to fish out all of them, and more arrests will be made in due course.
“These three suspects vandalized and carted away fiber cables but unfortunately for them, the eagle-eyed men of my patrol teams averted their plans.”
Odumosu assured that “We shall deal decisively with them according to the extant laws to serve as a deterrent to others.”
The arrested suspects are Peter Kile, “M”, 27 years old from Vandeikya LGA Benue State; Akanuge Sammel, “M”, 27 years old from Konshisha LGA Benue State; and Justin Tundu, “M”, 31 years old from Konshisha LGA, Benue State.
