Nwifuru lifts suspension of Ebonyi Head Teachers

Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the reversal of the suspension placed on two head teachers by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Education.

The ministry had earlier suspended the two head teachers indefinitely over alleged gross misconduct, denial of pupils’ right to quality education, and alleged sabotage of the state government’s efforts in the education sector.

Reports indicated that the suspension followed the circulation of a viral video showing the poor conditions under which pupils were being taught.

The teachers were accused of being linked to the footage, which drew widespread reactions online after exposing schoolchildren learning in classrooms with unfinished block walls, inadequate facilities, and poor infrastructure.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Leo Oketa, Nwifuru said he had taken note of public reactions and discussions surrounding the suspension across social media platforms.

According to the statement, the governor directed the immediate lifting of the suspension and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and pupils, as well as learning conditions in schools across the state.

The statement added that the government had already commenced extensive school construction projects in the affected communities, particularly at Community Primary School Unwuigboke and Community Primary School Unwuezeali in Oriuzor.

It explained that the projects formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and provide a more conducive learning environment for pupils.

“While the government acknowledges existing infrastructural challenges in some communities, efforts are being sustained to address them progressively across the state, as all needs cannot be met at the same time.

“The government appreciates the concern shown by citizens and media organizations, and assures the public of its unwavering commitment to quality education and the well-being of Ebonyi people,” the statement added.
