The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected cattle thieves, recovered six stolen cows and stopped a suspected abduction attempt in separate security operations across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the developments in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to him, officers attached to the Sagamu Division arrested 35-year-old Abiodun Kamilu and 37-year-old Adesanya Segun after receiving a distress report that seven cows had been stolen from a cattle yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu.
Babaseyi explained that the report was received in the early hours of July 25, 2026, prompting officers to launch coordinated patrols around key exit routes. Acting on credible intelligence, the police intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
The operation led to the arrest of the two suspects, the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows and the seizure of a vehicle allegedly used during the failed escape.
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the suspected syndicate, recover the remaining cow and prosecute everyone linked to the crime.
In another operation, Babaseyi said officers from the Safer Highway Patrol Team on July 26 prevented a suspected abduction at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to him, the patrol team responded after hearing gunshots in the area. Their swift arrival forced the suspected kidnappers to abandon the operation and flee into a nearby bush.
The intended victim was rescued unharmed and escorted with his vehicle to the Ogunmakin Police Post, while normal activities quickly resumed in the area. Police said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved for their professionalism and vigilance, describing the operations as evidence of the command’s improved operational readiness and rapid response to security threats.
He assured residents that the police remained committed to maintaining security across the state through intelligence-led policing, strategic patrols, visibility policing and other coordinated operations.
Ojajuni also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, assuring them that all useful reports would receive immediate attention.
