The Ondo State government has dissolved the 18 local government council chairmen and councilors who were elected to office.
Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa said in a statement by his spokesperson, Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, that the dissolution was due to the expiration of the tenure of the elected officials.
“This implies that all chairmen and councilors would vacate their respective offices accordingly and hand over the administration of the local governments,” Aiyedatiwa said.
“The state government appreciates the outgoing chairmen and councillors for their meritorious services to the people of Ondo State, while also wishing them the best in their future endeavours.”
Aiyedatiwa instructed the Heads of Local Government Administration in the 18 LGAs to take over the administration of the local councils until the government gives further directives.
The dissolution of the elected local government officials came after the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) had announced that the election into the 18 Local Government Areas of the state would be held in February 2024.
