The state chairman of the Social Democratic Party in Oyo State, Michael Okunlade, has come under fire from the party’s governor candidate, Michael Lana, for claiming that the party had expelled him for engaging in anti-party actions.

According to reports, the state chairman, Okunlade, sent a letter to the national headquarters in Abuja on Friday on behalf of the state executive suspending both Lana and the state secretary, Idowu Owokoya.

In the days leading up to the March 18 governor’s election in Oyo State, the SDP split in two over the choice of Governor Seyi Makinde of the People’s Democratic Party and Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress as the party’s nominee.

Lana, in an interview with The PUNCH in Ibadan, said he had already reacted on social media.

He said, “He (Okunlade) is suffering from the inglorious defeat of their alliance with the All Progressives Congress. That’s why!

“The National secretariat has condemned it actually. There is nothing to talk about. There is nothing much to talk about.”

When contacted, the state secretary of the party, Idowu Owokoya, said he was not in a position to speak on the matter.
