PDP gains early advantage in Adamawa LG elections

The Peoples Democratic Party appears set to secure victory in the Adamawa State local government elections, with early results placing the party ahead in most of the councils where collation has been completed.

The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission said the final outcome of the chairmanship and councillorship polls will be announced after the remaining results are compiled.

Emmanuel Abba, the commission’s Commissioner for Logistics and Field Operations, revealed that results from 20 of the 21 local government areas had already been received, while the process was still ongoing in Numan LGA.

According to reports, figures released at ward and council levels show the PDP maintaining a strong advantage across the state.

The election, however, was marked by poor voter participation, as many polling units recorded sparse turnout.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was reportedly away from the state during the exercise.

Commenting on the trend, Commissioner for Information Leader Leneke credited the PDP’s performance to its intensive campaign efforts, arguing that the APC was less visible in mobilising voters ahead of the polls.

“The PDP governorship candidate and the chairmanship candidates were going out every day for campaigns, but the ruling APC was not doing the same. So, if the PDP wins the election today, it is due to its hard work,” he said.

“There is voter apathy in today’s election because people in rural areas believe that local government elections are meant for the ruling party in government, so they see no reason to come out and vote.”

The election outcome is expected to become clearer once ADSIEC completes collation and formally releases the final results.
