Community sources reported that the attackers entered the village around 11 p.m. and began firing indiscriminately.
A resident, Martha Dalyop, told Vanguard that the gunmen came into the area late at night, shooting sporadically and forcing people to run for safety. She expressed concern that the repeated attacks have kept communities in constant fear, leaving many unable to sleep in their homes or work on their farms.
Confirming the incident, the publicity secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder Association, Rwang Tengwong, stated that the recent assault indicates the attackers are now focusing on relaxation spots, farming settlements, and local vigilantes guarding rural communities.
He explained that during such operations, the attackers usually divide into groups—some targeting residents, others destroying farmland, while another group conducts surveillance or blocks roads to stop escape or outside intervention.
Tengwong also revealed that within the past 48 hours, gunmen had devastated a vast area of farmland in Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, including cabbage, hot pepper, and maize crops, further worsening the situation for farmers in the affected areas.
He added that the latest attack has increased tension in Riyom and nearby Barkin Ladi communities, with residents urging security agencies and government authorities to step up efforts to stop the killings and destruction of livelihoods in Plateau State.
