Police confirm arrest of prophetess over death of mother, baby

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Prophetess Folashade Kikiowo Adekola, the pastor of Christ Engracing Deliverance Ministry, in connection with the deaths of a woman, Jumoke Adesuwa, and her newborn baby.

Reports from the police state that the deceased woman’s brother reported the incident at the Oke-Aro Police Division.

According to reports, family sources revealed that Adesuwa bled to death after giving birth in the church following a five-day prayer session.

Reports indicate that Adesuwa had spent five days at the church for “spiritual incarceration,” despite her husband providing money for antenatal care at a government hospital.

It was further reported that the baby died immediately after birth in the church last Wednesday, while the mother later passed away at a private hospital.

According to the source, “The husband of the deceased came from the farm in Idanre after five days away from home and asked for his wife. So, one of the neighours told him that she had left for church to be delivered of a baby.

“Someone from the church called in the evening to inform him that his wife has been delivered of a baby. The deceased’s husband called me and we rushed to the said church called ‘Muzuzo’ at Oke-Aro.

“When we got there, we were told that the baby died in the process, but the mother was alive. On sighting the deceased, we saw her in a pool of blood bleeding profusely. So, we rushed her to a nearby hospital.

“Due to the worst condition of the deceased, she was rejected at three hospitals and she died in the process of reviving her in the last hospital that admitted her“To our surprise, we got to the church to collect the baby’s remains and we found the corpse in a room in the church. The condition of the room was very worrisome as it does not look like a delivery room.

“We approached the Oke-Aro Police Station in Akure to report the case which led to the arrest of the prophetess in charge. The remains of the woman have been deposited at the mortuary.”

Ondo Police spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the arrest of Prophetess Adekola and the deaths of the woman and her baby, stating that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
