The police in Nasarawa State have verified the kidnapping of Prof. Kuje Ayuba, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of the Nasarawa State University (NSUK), at his Keffi home, along with four students from the university, abducted by unknown gunmen.

According to reports, the kidnappers struck at the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s residence between 9:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. on Sunday. Furthermore, on Monday night, the same group of kidnappers targeted the student community in Angwan Kare, Keffi, abducting four new university students at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Residents of the Keffi community, who spoke with newsmen on the condition of anonymity, described the kidnappers’ brazen and sustained rampage within the areas where students and staff reside. The criminals operated without hindrance for more than four hours, conducting home invasions and sporadic shootings that left the residents in fear.

These residents highlighted that Keffi is no longer a safe place, with gunmen freely operating for two consecutive nights.

Confirming these events, the spokesperson for the state police command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramhan Nansel, reported that the command became aware of the abductions around 12:55 a.m. after receiving a distress call indicating that unidentified armed men had invaded a house in Angwan Kaare, Keffi.

He mentioned that the police, working in conjunction with the military, promptly responded and conducted a thorough search of the region, but their efforts yielded no results. He further conveyed that the Commissioner of Police has issued orders to launch a thorough search for the individuals responsible, with the primary objective of safely rescuing the victims.

As of the time of the report, the university administration had not provided any statement, and the victims remained in captivity.
