Three suspects have been arrested after a student was shot during the Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at Ebonyi State University.
The Ebonyi State Police Command confirmed that the arrests were made in connection with an attempt to disrupt the collation and announcement of results.
According to reports, the suspects allegedly fired shots into the crowd during the announcement, and a bullet struck a student who was immediately taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, for treatment.
In a statement on Tuesday, police spokesperson SP Joshua Ukandu said the quick intervention of operatives on the ground led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of a locally made pistol used in the incident.
Ukandu added that the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
