The Kano State Police Command has recovered two stolen vehicles in separate intelligence-led operations carried out in Tarauni and Kumbotso Local Government Areas of Kano State.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

The command said the recoveries followed directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on intelligence-driven policing and enhanced patrol operations.

It described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen crime prevention through visibility policing, intelligence gathering, and community collaboration.

In the first case, a Toyota Corolla LE (2004 model), dark ash in colour, with registration number DRA 735AA, was reported stolen on April 22, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Mambolo Street, Zone 2, Wuse, Abuja.

Acting on intelligence, operatives of the Special Intervention Squad recovered the vehicle at Darmarawa Layout, Naibawa, Tarauni LGA, Kano State.

Preliminary findings suggest the vehicle was abandoned by a suspected car thief who is currently at large, with efforts ongoing to apprehend him.

In the second incident, an unregistered foreign-used Kia Optima belonging to Musbahu Baba Muhammad of Railway Quarters was stolen on April 24, 2026, at Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu Friday Mosque along BUK Road.

Following investigations by the Sharada Police Division and coordinated patrols, the vehicle was recovered at about 5:30 a.m. on April 25, 2026, at Ja’en Quarters with the support of local vigilantes.

The police confirmed that both vehicles are now in safe custody while investigations continue to track down those responsible.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the operatives and vigilante groups for their swift response and collaboration, noting that the recoveries highlight the effectiveness of community policing strategies.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
