Police rescue abducted security guard in Zamfara

The police in Zamfara have rescued a 52-year-old security guard who had been kidnapped in Gusau on December 29 in Gusau.

According to the police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, the individual was taken captive at approximately 1:30 am on Friday during an intrusion by gunmen into a residence in Sabon Garin Damba, where he was employed.

Abubakar stated in a Friday release that the armed individuals targeted the home of Alhaji Kabiru Umar, a staff member of Zamfara College of Art and Science in Gusau, and seized the security guard during the incident.

“On receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer of Damba Division mobilised a team of detectives for a search and rescue operation.”

“They intercepted the abductors at the outskirts of Sabon Garin Damba and on sighting the police, the hoodlums fired the victim on his right hand and took to their heels with  possible gunshot wounds

“The victim was rescued and taken to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau, and is responding to treatment,” the command spokesman added.

He mentioned that Mr. Muhammad Shehu, the Commissioner of Police, expressed appreciation for the prompt notification by residents regarding the incident.

Shehu also commended the timely intervention of police operatives, resulting in the immediate rescue of the abducted individual.

He assured that the command would persist in its efforts to combat bandits and other criminal elements in the state until normalcy is reinstated.
