Police summon Fulani, Yoruba communities’ leaders over alleged cattle poisoning in Oyo

Following the suspected poisoning death of some grazing cattle in the Alafara region of Ibadan, Ido Local Government region of Oyo State, the State Police Command has asked Fulani leaders and the Yoruba community in the area to reach an amicable conclusion to the situation.

Also, to allay the fears of residents in the area, security operatives have been keeping a 24hour vigilance on the area to prevent breakdown of law and order.

This was revealed in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
Some cows grazing in the region were said to have been poisoned. Alafara village is primarily a residential area with a long length of stream where some farmers cultivate vegetables, maize and other crops, particularly during the dry season.

To allay residents’ anxieties, the State Government assured them of its commitment to peaceful cohabitation and the safety of lives and property.
According to the commissioner for information, the notification was made to the government by inhabitants of the region, and appropriate authorities acted quickly to quell tensions in the area and prevent any type of communal violence between herdsmen and community members.

Prince Oyelade praised the efforts of the Amotekun Corps, Operation Burst, and the Nigeria Police Force during the crisis.

He stated that the Police have already engaged Fulani leaders and the Yoruba community in the area, and security personnel are on high alert 24 hours a day to ensure law and order.

He asked locals to continue with their everyday activities without fear or stress because the situation is under control.
