The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported that a road accident around Iyemoja Village, along the Olooru-Okoolowo express road in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara resulted in the loss of ten lives.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, informed the press that the tragic incident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. on Monday, involving two vehicles—a Volvo truck and a Toyota Hiace bus.

Dawulung specified that a total of 20 individuals, comprising 15 adult males, four adult females, and one male child, were part of the accident. He further noted that 10 casualties—comprising five adult males, four adult females, and one male child—lost their lives, while the remaining 10 adult males sustained injuries of varying degrees.

“Preliminary investigation conducted by the operatives of FRSC revealed that the crash occurred due to wrongful overtaking by the driver of the Volvo truck, leading to head-on collision with the bus.

“The bus was coming from Lagos en route Sokoto and was conveying 17 passengers and goods, while the truck was said to be coming from the north en route Lagos and had three passengers.

“The crash occurred along Olooru-Okoolowo Road around a village known as Iyemoja,” Dawulung said.

On receiving the crash report, the Sector Commander stated that rescue teams from the Olooru Unit and the Help and Rescue Camp were promptly dispatched to the accident site. The injured individuals were transported to the State Hospital in Ilorin, while the deceased were conveyed to the mortuary at the Teaching Hospital in Ilorin.

The Corps extended condolences to the families of the deceased and expressed wishes for a swift recovery for the injured victims. The Sector Commander urged drivers to refrain from dangerous overtaking and excessive speeding, emphasizing that these behaviors are leading causes of fatal accidents.

Despite this, he reassured the public that the Corps will persist in its efforts to ensure the safety of all road users, reminding drivers of the critical importance of responsible driving for their own preservation.
