The Super Eagles stumbled to a 2-0 defeat against Guinea in a pre-AFCON friendly match in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday, sparking concerns about Nigeria’s preparedness for the upcoming competition set to commence this week.

Nigeria fielded a formidable lineup for the match, with the returning William Troost-Ekong as captain and South Africa-based goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali guarding the post. However, the Syli National took the lead with Aguibou Camara scoring in the 14th minute.

The Super Eagles had an opportunity to level the score when Sadiq Umar was fouled in the box. Simon Moses took the resulting penalty, but the Guinean goalkeeper made a crucial save.

Despite Coach Jose Peseiro’s team pushing for an equalizer before halftime, Nigeria entered the break trailing to their West African counterparts. In the 64th minute, Guinea extended their lead with Facinet Conté’s goal, adding to the Super Eagles’ challenges.

Despite Peseiro making changes in the attack, midfield, and defense, the Syli Nationals held on for a memorable victory over the three-time African champions.”
