The Osun State University has said one of its final year students Victor Oke, was set ablaze by some cultists for refusing to join the illegal group.
The student was said to have been set ablaze by some suspected cultists after he had been attacked with cutlass and bullets fired at him did not have any effect on him.
The final year part time student of Political Science Department was later rescued and taken to the hospital by some residents of the area.
The Public Relations Officer of the university, Ademola Adesoji, in a statement issued on Monday called for the arrest of those who set the student ablaze.
The statement read, “We noticed that Victor was absent for his final paper in the afternoon and decided to contact his parents. It was later discovered that he was attacked by unknown cultists in the early hours of Saturday.
“Victor was shouting that he would not join their cult group while they continued to hit him with cutlasses,
stones and an attempt to burn him was partially succeeding before he was eventually rescued.
“The university security unit is currently working with the police to ensure the culprits are exposed and brought to justice. The cultists must be arrested.”
