Six people, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occurred on Wednesday in the Narehi area of Girei-Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, said the tragic crash involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.

According to him, preliminary investigations showed that both vehicles collided head-on, causing the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames.

“Preliminary findings reveal that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the commercial bus flipping over and bursting into flames,” Nguroje said.

The police spokesman disclosed that all five passengers in the commercial bus were burnt beyond recognition after the vehicle caught fire following the impact.

Initial identification revealed that four of the victims were serving NYSC members deployed to Adamawa State.

The deceased corps members were identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to establish the identities of the remaining victims.

Police authorities also confirmed that a military officer attached to the gun truck died as a result of the accident.

“The corpses have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Yola, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining bodies and locate their families,” the police stated.

Nguroje said the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the National Youth Service Corps, and everyone affected by the incident.
