Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said the APC governorship primary in the state was conducted in a peaceful, transparent manner and showed the party’s dedication to internal democracy and inclusiveness.
He made this known after casting his vote at Ward E3 on Lagos Island, where he was joined by his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu. He explained that the direct primary system allowed grassroots party members to freely choose their preferred candidate.
“This process shows that our party believes in democracy and inclusiveness,” he said.
He further noted that party members participated calmly to fulfill their civic responsibility in selecting their preferred aspirant. According to him, the electoral officials and party agents performed their duties professionally, while voter turnout at the grassroots level was impressive.
“Party members have come out peacefully to exercise their civic responsibility and elect their preferred aspirant.
“We have seen electoral officials and party representatives carrying out their duties professionally, and I am impressed with the level of participation at the grassroots.”
Sanwo-Olu also backed Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, who emerged as the sole aspirant in the primary election. He praised Hamzat’s experience and capability, saying he would continue the administration’s progress.
“I have confidence in Dr Hamzat’s capacity, competence and understanding of governance in Lagos State,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“He has contributed immensely to the progress we have recorded as an administration.
“I believe he will sustain and build on the developmental strides achieved over the years.”
Lagos Island East LCDA Chairman Alade Folawiyo also commended the process, describing the turnout as encouraging and affirming Hamzat’s ability to sustain development and effective governance in the state.
