Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has praised President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for approving Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Sanwo-Olu characterized the development as a significant step forward for transportation in the state.

He wrote, “On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project.”

The governor further pointed out that the project “is a significant milestone,” noting that the Green Line will span roughly 68 kilometres from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, featuring about 17 stations across major areas such as Victoria Island, Ajah, and the Lekki corridor.

He also stated that the rail system “will serve up to 500,000 passengers daily at inception with the capacity to increase to about one million over time.”

Additionally, he explained that the line, capable of transporting up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, “will reduce travel time and relieve pressure on our road network.”

Highlighting its wider benefits, the governor said, “This project reflects our commitment to improving mobility, supporting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for Lagosians.” He also recognized federal backing, adding, “We value the continued support of the Federal Government and remain focused on delivering a system that meets the needs of our people.”
