The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday celebrated mothers across the state in observance of Mother’s Day, recognising their sacrifices and crucial contributions to families, communities, and the overall development of Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the influence of mothers goes beyond the household, emphasizing that their resilience, care, and dedication shape society and nurture the next generation.
In a message shared on his official X account, the governor expressed gratitude to mothers throughout Lagos for their patience and commitment in raising responsible citizens.
“Today, I want to wish mothers across Lagos a Happy Mother’s Day.
“One day is hardly enough to appreciate all that mothers do. From the quiet sacrifices made at home to the impact they have across our economy and communities, mothers help shape families and the future of our state.
“To every mother raising the next generation of Lagosians, thank you for your patience, your resilience, and your love. We see you, and we appreciate you,” he wrote.
Sanwo-Olu also encouraged mothers to enjoy a joyful celebration, take time to rest, and feel the appreciation that comes with this special day dedicated to honouring their roles in society.
Report stated that Mother’s Day is an annual event celebrating mothers and motherhood, recognising their influence in families, communities, and society at large. In Nigeria, it is observed in many states on the second Sunday of May, though some regions align with the global “Mothering Sunday” in March.
The occasion aims to acknowledge the sacrifices, resilience, and contributions of mothers in nurturing families, raising children, and supporting societal growth. In Lagos, which has a population exceeding 20 million, mothers play a vital role not only in family life but also in sustaining economic activity and community development.
Governors and public officials traditionally mark the day with messages that celebrate mothers’ contributions and highlight their importance in shaping future generations.
