The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Olukemi Victoria Iyantan, representing Ondo State, as a Commissioner in the National Population Commission (NPC).
The confirmation followed the Senate’s consideration of a recommendation from its Committee on National Identity Card and National Population. Presenting the report, the Committee Chairman, Senator Abdul Ningi, highlighted Iyantan’s qualifications and extensive public service experience, affirming her suitability for the role.
Additionally, the Senate passed the South West Development Bill for a third reading earlier in the day. The bill, presented by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Special Duties, Kaka Shehu Lawan, seeks to establish a development commission to address infrastructure deficits and ecological challenges in the South West region. Lawan explained that, once established and signed into law, the commission would receive funding from the federation account and donations from development partners.
The bill, which had its second reading in February 2024, will manage federal funds for capital projects in the South West region.
