The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointments of Mr. Ola Olukoyede as EFCC Chairman and Muhammad Hammajoda as the Secretary.
Olukayode, a highly experienced lawyer with more than twenty-two (22) years of expertise, serves as a regulatory compliance consultant and excels in fraud management and corporate intelligence. His extensive background includes substantial involvement in EFCC operations.
Furthermore, the Senate, has endorsed the appointment of Muhammad Hammajoda as the Secretary of the anti-corruption agency.
Both gentlemen received confirmation after undergoing a screening process by the upper chamber on Wednesday afternoon. This occurred approximately one week after their appointments by President Bola Tinubu.
The leadership of the nation’s primary anti-corruption agency has undergone significant changes in recent months since President assumed office on May 29, 2023.
On June 14, 2023, the President took the step of indefinitely suspending Abdulrasheed Bawa from his position as the head of the anti-corruption agency. This suspension was imposed in order to facilitate a thorough investigation into his conduct during his tenure. It was prompted by serious allegations of abuse of office directed towards him.
Following this, the President instructed Abdulkarim Chukkol, the Director of Operations at the Commission, to assume the role of acting EFCC chairman, while the Department of State Services (DSS) took Bawa into their custody.
