Seven killed in Abuja Building collapse

Seven people have been confirmed dead in a building collapse in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Abdulrahman Mohammed, revealed this during an inspection of the collapse site along the Airport Road in the nation’s capital on Sunday.

He explained that the incident, which occurred on Saturday, was due to individuals attempting to scavenge materials from a building that was in the process of being demolished by the Federal Capital Development Control, following issues related to improper land documentation.

He also confirmed that two individuals are currently receiving treatment in hospital and advised the public to avoid endangering their lives by entering demolished structures.

Although the exact number of people in the building at the time of the incident is yet to be confirmed, the official assured citizens that the agency’s rescue team remains on-site.
