Suspected Lakurawa gunmen kill two Customs officers in Kebbi

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa group reportedly killed two Customs officers in Tuga community, located in Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack was said to have taken place in the early hours of Wednesday after the assailants stormed two security checkpoints within the community.

A source, who requested anonymity due to security concerns, told our correspondent that one of the victims, a senior officer, was burnt alive after the attackers allegedly set fire to the place where he was sleeping.

According to the source, the incident occurred around 3am.

“The gunmen attacked two checkpoints that are very close to each other.

“They shot one officer, a one star, while they burnt the three star officer alive.

“They came in a truck, disguising as if they were carrying animals, in which they caught the officers unaware.

“Two other officers with gunshot wounds are in the hospital now receiving treatment.”

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service in Kebbi State, Mustapha Mubarak, said the command would release an official statement after receiving full details of the incident.

He neither confirmed nor denied the attack, stating, “We will issue a statement once we get the full report.”

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force in Kebbi State, SP Bashir Usman, could not be reached as of the time this report was filed.
