After spending nearly eight years away from acting, veteran Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji is set to make a significant comeback to the screen with a leading role in BBC Studios’ upcoming thriller series, Wahala.

The acclaimed actress, whose last screen appearance was in the 2018 film Lionheart, will feature in the six-part television adaptation of Wahala, a novel written by BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Theresa Ikoko.

The series, produced by BBC Studios through its Firebird Pictures division, is scheduled to air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.

The production boasts an impressive cast that includes Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo and Susan Wokoma.

Based on Wahala by author Nikki May, the thriller centres on four Nigerian-British women living in London as hidden truths, strained friendships and troubling memories begin to surface.

Speaking about her acting comeback, Nnaji said the project was both thrilling and captivating.

“I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story, and I’m excited to be a part of it,” she said.

Executive producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff also praised the production, saying the cast assembled for the series was outstanding.

“We are so proud to be announcing our incredible cast for Wahala and can’t wait to see them breathe life into these wonderful characters,” she stated.

Nnaji’s return has already sparked excitement among fans, particularly after her long break from acting following her directorial debut in Lionheart, which became one of Nigeria’s most widely discussed films on the global stage.
