NDLEA arrests 334 suspects, seizes N56.9m worth of illegal substances in Abuja

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), FCT Command it seized roughly 3,091.032 kg of suspected illegal substances, valued at about N56.9 million January to August (2023).

This information was provided on Wednesday by the agency’s FCT Commandant, Mr. Kabir Tsakuwa during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to Tsakuwa, the illegal substances found included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, suspected cannabis sativa, Tramadol, Rohypnol, Diazepam, Ecstasy, and Megadon.

He said that there were 328 men and 15 women among the 343 drug suspects who were detained during the evaluation period.

Tsakuwa said that 188 drug offenders had been charged during the time period under consideration, and 126 had been found guilty and given a range of jail sentences.

Tsakuwa said, “Drugs seized were cannabis sativa 3,022.529 kilogrammes, cocaine 0.114 kilogramnes, Methamphetamine 1.25 kilogrammes, Heroin 0.0021 kilogrammes.

“We also seized suspected Tramadol 18.578 kilogrammes, Rohypnol 1.195 kilogrammes, Diazepam 4.471 kilogrammes, Ecstasy 0.113 kilogrammes and Megadon 0.263 kilogrammes.

“The monetary value of these drugs stands approximately N56, 903, 600 only.”

The head of NDLEA said that 102 drug users had been counseled and discharged over the time period, while 33 people with drug use disorders had been rehabilitated.

Tsakuwa stated that the agency, along with other security agencies, will take part in a coordinated operation inside the FCT to clear up shanties and trouble places.

He said that these were places where drug misuse and criminal activity were likely to be on the rise.
