President Bola Tinubu has urged authorities to conduct a thorough and in-depth investigation into the repeated occurrences of fatal boat accidents nationwide.
This is contained in a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Tinubu warned that government agencies would be held responsible for any regulatory or safety lapses in boating activities, and called for comprehensive safety measures and enforcement to be implemented.
President Tinubu ordered a joint investigation by law enforcement, maritime safety, and transportation safety authorities to determine the cause of the recurring boat crashes.
President Tinubu expressed his deepest sympathy to the families of the victims who died in the recent boat accidents in Mokwa LGA of Niger State and Gurin village, in Fufore LGA of Adamawa State.
President Tinubu expressed his solidarity with the governments and people of Niger and Adamawa in their efforts to provide assistance to the victims of the boat accidents.
President Tinubu wished those injured in the boat accidents a speedy recovery, and assured the affected families and communities of the government’s continued support during this difficult time.

On Monday, a boat capsized in a river in Gurin, Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, with many people on board.
Similarly, 26 bodies have been recovered, but 44 people are still missing after a boat capsized in a river between the Jebba and Kainji dams in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State on Sunday.
