President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday left Abuja for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the European nation.

The development was announced in a post on X by the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who explained that the visit seeks to deepen existing ties and broaden cooperation across critical sectors.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departs Abuja today for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye. The visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation,” Olusegun wrote.

A video accompanying the post captured the President at the airport before his departure. He was seen in the company of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma; and other senior government officials.

Online had earlier reported that Tinubu was scheduled to depart Abuja on Monday for the visit. This was confirmed on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu to undertake state visit to Türkiye.’

“The visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation,” Onanuga stated.

He noted that the trip also serves as a reciprocal gesture following the state visit to Nigeria by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in October 2021.

Onanuga added that Tinubu’s visit would feature high-level political and diplomatic engagements between Nigeria and Türkiye, with discussions centred on mutual interests in finance, communication, trade and investment.
