Tinubu swears in Kekere-Ekun as substantive CJN

President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja

The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and the Ministers of Information, Mohammed Idris; FCT, Nyesom Wike; Justice, Lateef Fagbemi; and Special Duties, Zephaniah Jisalo.

Kekere-Ekun’s appointment as the substantive CJN follows her confirmation by the Nigerian Senate last week. President Tinubu had previously sworn her in as acting Chief Justice in August, after the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

Justice Kekere-Ekun becomes the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria and the second woman to hold the position, following Justice Alooma Mukhtar.
