Tinubu’s camp knows Wike cannot be trusted with power – Momodu

A former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has leveled accusations against Nyesom Wike, alleging disloyalty to the party. Momodu claims that despite Nyesom Wike working within the administration of President Bola Tinubu as the FCT minister, he lacks trust from the president’s camp.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, threw his support behind Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 presidential election. This move stemmed from a disagreement with the PDP leadership over the party’s decision to nominate Atiku Abubakar, a candidate from the northern region, as its presidential flagbearer.

Although Wike was subsequently appointed as the FCT Minister, he has not severed ties with the PDP, and despite calls for his sanction from the party, no action has been taken against him.

Momodu, a publisher, criticized Wike for his position and accused him of attempting to undermine the PDP.

“Wike feels he is fooling Tinubu and his people. But Tinubu’s people know him very well,” he said on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s breakfast show Sunrise Daily.

“There is no Nigerian today who does not know that Wike cannot be trusted in any matter especially if it affects his interest in power. For him, power is everything. Money is everything.”

‘We Have Left Him’

Despite efforts to reconcile Wike with the PDP, reconciliation did not materialize. The rift between the FCT minister and the party resulted in the PDP losing the presidential election in Rivers State to the APC.

However, Momodu is of the opinion that Wike went too far by actively opposing the PDP.

“What a man should know is that when you cut your nose, thinking you want to spit your face, you would look awkward,” he said.

He, however, noted: “We have left him and we are watching him”.

Momodu insisted he would have sanctioned Wike if he were in a position to do so. He wants the PDP to take action against the minister to put the party in the right stead.
