Troops of 8 Division Garrison Sokoto eliminated numerous terrorists in the North-Western state of Tukandu Village.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, said this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said troops of the Nigerian Army launched a carefully planned offensive operation, targeting a notorious group of terrorists, responsible for various atrocious and heinous activities in the general area.

“In a discreet operation against marauding terrorists in Sokoto, troops’ fierce onslaught terminated many of the terrorists,” the statement read.

Many other terrorists fled with gunshot wounds, Nwachukwu said.

Recovered from the insurgents were three AK-47 Rifles, one PKT Gun, 125 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, two Rocket propelled gun bombs and nine motorcycles.

Reacting, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, lauded the troops, charging them to remain resolute and continue to escalate their operations against the terrorists to decimate and deny them the freedom of action.

Sokoto is one of the states in the North-West region that faces attacks by bandits and terrorist who kidnap for ransom, kill people and wreak havoc in communities.

Other states include Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara among others.
