Two members of the Abia State House of Assembly have left the Young Progressive Party (YPP) to join the ruling Labour Party (LP) in the state.
The lawmakers, Iheanacho Nwogu of Osisioma North State Constituency and Fine Ahuama of Osisioma South State Constituency, made the switch.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti, accompanied by senior members of his cabinet, welcomed the new members into the Labour Party at the Abia State Government House in Umuahia on Tuesday.
Governor Otti assured them that the Labour Party would offer a level playing field for all and urged the lawmakers to encourage the entire Osisioma council area to join the party to achieve greater democratic benefits.
In their speeches, Nwogu and Ahuama informed the governor that they had announced their defection to the Labour Party during a plenary session, citing his achievements in office as their motivation.
