The Federal Government, through the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has announced that it has renovated 64 interior roadways in various federal tertiary institutions across the nation.

At the handover of the reclaimed road (which was destroyed by erosion) at the Site B of the University of Benin, Ugbowo campus on Wednesday, Fashola, who was represented by an official in the office of the Federal Road Controller in Edo State, Ademola Razak, made this declaration.

He explained, “We have successfully intervened in 64 internal road projects in various federal tertiary institutions and handed over a total of 46 as of March 2022.

We now have another 18 ready to be handed over while we were attending to 19 roads in other institutions across the country making it a total of 83 roads.

“It is undeniable that the quality of education will be impacted by the quality of Infrastructures. Those who doubt it should simply listen to some of the feedback from students in the schools, where this type of Intervention has taken place.”

Fashola emphasized that more than 50 people were hired throughout the building process, contributing to the federal government’s goal of creating jobs.

He expressed the wish that the institution will now look ensure that the resource wasn’t misused.

Prof. Lilian Salami, Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, Minister Raji Fashola, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and other important players and stakeholders for their support.

Over 70% of Site B at the university had been encroached, according to Prof. Salami.

She bemoaned the fact that the enroachment was becoming riskier and more dangerous every day.

She added that Fashola was one of the institution’s alumni who had made significant contributions to it’s progress.

She added, “I must commend the Federal Government and other stakeholders for this project. The road has been rehabilitated and this will help the school and adjourning communities to have access to good road,” she added.
