VIDEO: How fallen fuel tanker at Oko-Oba held motorists, pedestrians to one spot for hours
A fallen fuel tanker on Saturday held motorists, pedestrians and other road users immovable along the Oko-Oba, Agege axis of Lagos State, NewsClick Nigeria can authoritatively report.
NewsClick Nigeria gathered that the said tanker was about to discharge the fuel in it on Friday night at one of the popular filling stations when one of its tyres got stuck inside the gutter.
This resulted into hours of traffic congestion from morning till late in on Saturday evening.
‘It happened around 11pm last night (Friday). The tanker was about gaining entrance into the Mobil filling station close to Abattoir to discharge the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in it when the back axle entered and got stuck into the gutter spilling the petrol in the process,’ an eyewitness told NewsClick Nigeria.
According to the witness, what could have resulted in another tragedy was averted by first responders at the scene late that night.
‘The tanker would have burst into flames if not for the presence of first responders who quickly did the needful. And you don’t want to imagine the level of tragedy that could have happened. I live close by and I can state categorically that traffic from this incident is the longest I’ve ever witnessed,’ he said.
NewsClick Nigeria gathered that the congestion later eased up around 5pm after combined efforts of police and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers.
