The wife of Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has called on Nigerians to consider how their daily choices impact the nation’s overall health, emphasizing that developing an inclusive healthcare system is essential, not optional.
In a press statement released Tuesday to mark World Health Day, observed globally on April 7 in honor of the founding of the World Health Organisation, Soludo stressed that achieving a healthier society requires collective effort beyond government action.
“This message is not for the government alone. Of course, it’s expected that the government must take the lead action. But the process demands a collective vision,” she said.
This year’s global theme, Together for Health: Stand with Science, highlights the inequalities preventing millions from accessing quality health services, education, and safe living conditions, regardless of their location or income.
Through her NGO, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, the first lady has been implementing initiatives across Anambra State, including weekly fitness sessions, health education programs, and community outreach efforts.
“My NGO is leading an unprecedented crusade that has transformed the overall health consciousness and habits of our people,” she said.
She also reminded Nigerians that good health is the result of consistent, intentional daily choices rather than isolated efforts.
“Health is not a one-off process. It’s a collection of those simple but significant daily actions that define good or bad health. Take care of yourself always. Be mindful of what you consume. Health is irreplaceable,” Soludo added.
She described health as “the greatest wealth” and “the greatest measure of a thriving society,” urging individuals, communities, and institutions to align their actions toward universal health access.
World Health Day, observed each April 7, commemorates the founding of the World Health Organisation in 1948 and highlights a pressing global health priority annually. This year’s theme is Together for Health.
