The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accepted responsibility for the persistent sight of cattle on major roads and streets within Abuja, acknowledging that the issue continues despite efforts aimed at improving the nation’s capital.

During his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike expressed concern over the situation and reassured residents that the administration is committed to resolving it.

“I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja, I take responsibility,” the minister said.

He also pointed to various infrastructure developments taking place across the territory, emphasizing that projects are not limited to the city centre but are also reaching communities in satellite towns.

According to him, the initiatives span multiple sectors, including road development, water provision, and housing for government officials.

He stated, “Our attention is not only on developing the city centres of Abuja. We are also working in all the Area Councils.

“We are providing infrastructure everywhere across the FCT.”

Wike further revealed that, in partnership with President Bola Tinubu, the FCT Administration will embark on a series of project inaugurations as part of activities commemorating the administration’s third anniversary.

The minister noted, “To celebrate Mr President’s three years in office, the FCTA will commission projects for the next 31 days commencing June 8, 2026.”

He added that the road projects delivered across the FCT have enhanced accessibility and improved security in several communities.

The issue of roaming cattle in Abuja has persisted for years, with residents and motorists repeatedly expressing concerns about safety and the movement of livestock on major roads.

Meanwhile, Wike maintained that Abuja residents are already experiencing the benefits of the policies and development projects being implemented under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
