A woman named Nnaemaka Nwosu in Anambra state, has allegedly set a policewoman and her two children ablaze, causing them to be severely burned.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday within the Nnokwa community of Idemili South Local Government Area in Anambra State.

The accused, originally from Amawbia, allegedly went through a divorce and subsequently found herself homeless and desperately in need of accommodation. She then confided in the policewoman, who offered her a place to stay in her own apartment.

As per an anonymous source from the area, trouble arose when the suspect engaged in an argument with the policewoman, leading to a physical altercation.

The suspect proceeded to strike the policewoman with a pestle, causing her to collapse and lose consciousness.

The source said, “After that, the suspect tied the policewoman and her children together with rope, right inside their room, set them ablaze, together with the building; and they (the policewoman and her children) all got burnt.

“The suspect was first apprehended by operatives of the local vigilante and some of the villagers who were attracted by the fire, and who eventually captured her as she was trying to escape the vicinity.”

After initially asserting that the incident resulted from a gas cylinder explosion while the woman and her children were boiling water, the suspect eventually admitted to the crime and provided details on how she executed the atrocious act.

Upon contact, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police, verified the occurrence of the incident. Ikenga stated that the suspect has been apprehended and the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for additional investigations.

He further mentioned that the bodies of the policewoman and her children have been taken to the mortuary.

DSP Ikenga provided a concise account of the incident and disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

“Preliminary information revealed that the policewoman accommodated the suspect while she was searching for a house. The two women had a disagreement which resulted in a fight before the suspect hit the woman police on her head with a pestle.

“While she became unconscious she tied her with her two kids and set them ablaze. The bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited in the morgue. Further development shall be communicated,” Ikenga added.
