Rivers Guber Appeal: Supreme Court reserves judgment

146

The Supreme Court has reserved judgement in the appeal brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Patrick Tonye-Cole, against the win of Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the March 18, 2023 governorship election.

Mr Tonye-Cole’s case stems from an Appeal Court ruling on November 28th, which dismissed his appeal for a lack of substantial and convincing evidence.

The APC governorship candidate claims anomalies, noncompliance with the Electoral Act, and Fubara’s continuing signing of documents as Rivers State’s Accountant-General after his nomination as the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate.

Patrick Tonye-Cole’s appeal is against the Electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the PDP, and Governor  Fubara.

A five-member panel headed by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun reserved judgment on the appeal after all parties in the suit adopted their briefs of arguments.

The apex court also dismissed the appeal of Innocent Kere of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) after it was withdrawn by his counsel.
