Ex-Lagos NURTW chair, Olorunwa, arrested for murder

The Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team has arrested Adeola Williams, popularly known as Ade Lawyer, described as the most notorious assassin in the South West, and Rafiu Olorunwa Akanni, also known as Olorunwa, a former boss of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Lagos State.

The NURTW boss was accused of hiring Williams to kill his last victim.

Akanbi and Williams were arrested on Wednesday following the assassination of Ganiyu Ayinla, the Personal Assistant to Azeez Adekunle Lawal, on Lagos Island on January 1, 2018.

A massive manhunt was said to have been launched by the IRT, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari, for the notorious assassin behind the killing.

Williams, 39, a native of Isasi village in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been on the most wanted list of the Nigerian Police for over five years.

He was arrested in his newly rented house in Akure, Ondo State by IRT operatives.

The suspect immediately confessed to the assassination of Ayinla in Lagos State and numerous assassinations in the South West of Nigeria.

He further confessed that Akanni hired him to assassinate Lawal for N1.5 million and was given N500,000 advance payment, with N1 million to be paid after the assassination, but he said they mistakenly assassinated the PA to their target, while their actual target, who was in the same Car with the late victim, miraculously escaped with bullet wounds.

He stated further that Akanni, who hired them for the job, refused to give them the balance of their N1 million because they killed the PA of the target, hence Williams traced the driver of Olorunwa and confiscated his black Hyundai Jeep from the driver, saying they will only release his Jeep after he pays them their N1 million balance as they need to run and hide until the heat comes down.

This was because two of his boys were arrested by the police.

He further confessed that Olurunwa has been calling him to be very careful and hide very well as his members had been arrested.

He also mentioned many other victims he assassinated in the past, which included Hamburger, a union chairman in Oshodi, Lagos State; Baba Jide Dosumu, aka Mados, in Ebute Metta, Lagos State; one Salawe in Ajah, Lagos State; Ganiyu Asaro; and four others in Badore area Lagos State, where he said he sprayed bullets on their car and killed the five occupants.

Akanni, 51, was arrested at 3pm on Thursday (today) in Ebute Metta area of Lagos State by IRT operatives.
