Achraf Hakimi edges out Osimhen, Salah to win 2025 African best footballer
Moroccan football star Achraf Hakimi has been crowned the 2025 African Footballer of the Year by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), rounding off an outstanding season for both club and country.
The Paris Saint-Germain full-back won the honour for the first time, chosen by a panel composed of experts and top African football journalists.
Hakimi entered the awards ceremony as the clear frontrunner after an extraordinary season with PSG, during which he helped the French champions claim four major trophies: Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League, the Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions. He also finished sixth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or voting.
A consistent performer throughout the campaign, Hakimi amassed more than 3,400 minutes on the pitch across all competitions. He registered 6 goals and 4 assists in Ligue 1, as well as 5 goals and 4 assists in the Champions League, while contributing to 10 clean sheets.
His impressive season earned him places in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season, the Ligue 1 Team of the Season, and the CAF Team of the Year.
The 27-year-old beat out Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen to claim the prestigious award, further solidifying his reputation as one of Africa’s finest footballers.
